Kathryn Mayorga's sexual assault lawsuit against Cristiano Ronaldo dismissed by judge

Judge Jennifer Dorsey of the U.S district has dismissed a lawsuit filed by ex-model Kathryn Mayorga on rape allegations made against Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009. This decision was made by the judge because of “bad faith” shown by the ex-model’s attorney Leslie Mark Stovall.

Kenny Ritter, a journalist, reported that Dorsey ruled that the case could not be further accessed because the evidence brought forward by Mayorga’s legal representatives were stolen, leaked and were accessed illegally, meaning they lacked the authenticity to be used in a law case.

"I find that the procurement and continued use of these documents was bad faith, and simply disqualifying Stovall will not cure the prejudice to Ronaldo because the misappropriated documents and their confidential contents have been woven into the very fabric of Mayorga's claims," Dorsey said. "Harsh sanctions are merited."

Ronaldo maintains that the affair was consensual

The former model stated that she met the Manchester United forward in a nightclub in Las Vegas. She also added that she met other people with the football star in the said nightclub where the sexual assault held. However, the Portuguese player has still maintained that his affair with the ex-model was consensual.

Mayorga also met with the city police after the said incident to report the events, but she refused to mention neither the Portuguese star’s name nor the location of the incident.

Moreover, Ronaldo in 2010, paid $375,000 to the ex-model as part of a confidentiality agreement signed in court, following her suit against the star saying that he raped her. Mayorga’s suit was aimed at getting over $60 million in damages from Ronaldo.

Her legal team also argued against publications by a German magazine known as Der Speigel, which apparently altered the case and invalidated the evidence brought forward by their client.

Cristiano Ronaldo is in his second stint at Old Trafford and though he has had a reality check on his expectations at the club, he has stated that he believes he can win trophies next season.

The forward has also played for teams like Sporting Lisbon, Real Madrid and Italian giants Juventus. The mercurial Portuguese will however also hope that this seemingly unending rape case is finally put to bed.
